Comments: Snarky

1) What is it I'm complaining about? What are "air quotes" supposed to refer to? I'm confused.

2) It's not much wider in IE (about 15 characters), but the only person here who knows enough to edit the Perl code to make it wider is, um, you.... :-)

See here and here and here. You and I both have taken to "air quoting" phrases more that usual recently. I dunno why, I just thought it was funny.

And I'll work on the form then...

I always heard them referred to as sarcasm quotes or scare quotes, depending on what the context was.

For example, if the new york times ran a headline saying Bush declares "War" on Terror They would be sort of impugning the seriousness of the war, or saying it sarcastically, as if there isn't one.

I see the source of my confusion. I thought you were talking about that habit we all have of holding up two fingers on each hand and saying, "quote, unquote" when we talk. Or perhaps sneer quotes. But each of the things you pointed to looks like a case where I just put quotes around, you know, a quotation.

Not that I'm shy about sneer quotes. I do it fairly regularly.

Believing in God does not require believing in religion.
